Cap D’Artrutx lighthouse is strategically placed in the southwest of Menorca, a mere 7 kilometres away from Ciudadela, Menorca’s second largest population centre. On a clear day you can see Mallorca in the distance (40 kilometres)
It was built in 1859, alongside the Capdepera lighthouse in Mallorca, each at an end of the channel separating the islands.
Ciudadela has over 27,000 inhabitants and is the second largest town in Menorca, after Mahón. This is a charming little town with a romantic and elegant pizzazz. There are a good number of things to do in Ciudadela, such as strolling though its evocative narrow and historic streets in the
old quarter from the port on to S. Nicolás Castle, visiting Borne Square or even Ses Voltes Square…Cathedral of Menorca, built between the 13th and 14th centuries by King Alfonso III of Aragon, who conquered the island in 1287. It rests over the old Mosque and it is the most important Catalan Gothic monument in Menorca.
Do not forget to visit the beautiful Souls’ Chapel. Borne Square, Its obelisk commemorates the heroic defence of Ciudadela from the Turks in 1558.
